Medicine
- Programme description
- Medicine is designed for students who want to build a career in healthcare, clinical practice, medical research or related health professions. Undergraduate medical programmes combine strong foundations in biology and human sciences with clinical learning, communication skills, ethical decision-making and patient care. Depending on the country, students may enter medicine directly after high school or through a pre-medical/foundation pathway.
- Suitable study destinations
- The UK, Australia, Ireland, Canada, the USA, Europe and the UAE offer established pathways for students considering medicine. The right destination depends on academic profile, admission tests, budget, preferred programme structure, clinical training opportunities and long-term plans for medical registration.
- Typical undergraduate entry requirements
- Students generally need strong high-school results, particularly in Biology and Chemistry, with Physics, Mathematics or another science sometimes required or recommended. English-language proficiency is normally required for international students. Some medical schools may also require an admissions test, interview, situational judgement assessment or other selection process. Requirements vary considerably between universities and countries.
- Career progression & job opportunities
- Graduates can progress into supervised clinical training and eventually practise as doctors after completing the relevant licensing and registration requirements. Career pathways can include general practice, surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, radiology and other specialties. Other opportunities include medical research, healthcare management, public health, clinical trials, medical education and pharmaceutical or biotechnology organisations.
